Flipper open was a one-day World Schools Debating tournament marketed towards high school debaters in the Eastern Cape province.
The event was held at Nelson Mandela University and was tremendously successful. The tournament had a total participation of 110 learners making it the largest schools' tournament ever held in the Eastern cape.
workshops for underdeveloped schools (free of charge). The first one was 12 February and Gamble Street High School, situated at Jubliee Park, Kariega , Uitenhage, managed to come. The session ran for 2 hours at the Lilian Ngoyi study centre. Unfortunately, the development league had to be put on pause because the other schools did not have transport to come.
The union collaborated with the Madibaz Youth Lab on a community outreach initiative. The programme took place over two (2) days 23-24 September 2022, and it included a community dialogue and a school’s debating tournament. The programme was kindly hosted by Paterson High School. On the 23 August 2022, there was a community dialogue will be known as “Imbadu”. Imbadu derives itself from the isiXhosa language referring to a space that allows the sharing of ideas, views, and engagements. The panel consisted of speakers such as Zimi Mabunzi , Qinisani Qwabe and learner at Paterson High School – Michilo Mentoor.
On Saturday, the 24 August 2022, the schools debating tournament occurred. The school's debate tournament consisted of underdeveloped schools from Gqeberha, the debates focused on topical issues that affect young people.
